Crescent Moon
If the shape of the moon is the shadow of the earth, how can we have a crescent at mid day?
How can there be a full moon in the middle of the day? Or a crescent moon? Supposedly, moon shapes come from the Earths shadow from the sun!
Where do people get this notion that the Moon's phases are the result of Earth's shadow falling on it? As you correctly realised, this simple CANNOT be the case because the phases don't coincide in any way with Earth's shadow.
The Moon's phases are the result of our viewpoint with regard to the way it is lit by the Sun. As with any sphere, only half of it can be illuminated at any one time. The side facing away from the Sun is in darkness. The phase of the Moon is dependent on where we are relative to the lit side of the Moon. When the Moon and Sun are nearly opposite each other in the sky we can see the whole of the lit side, and we have a full Moon. When the Moon is almost between us and the Sun we see mostly the unlit side, and hence we only see a crescent Moon. It has nothing at all to do with Earth's shadow.

Zzzzz, will you please provide a source of ANY credible astronomer or scientist who has claimed that the lunar phases have anything to do with the Earth's shadow?

I can describe the latest release from Jazz sensation Billy Cobham for you with just one word... Outstanding!
This CD literally grabs your attention right out of the gate with Solarization: Solarization / Second Phase / Crescent Sun / Voyage / Solarization-Recapitulation and won't let go until the very last note of the very last song Last Frontier, which is another great track by the way.
Total Eclipse is a nicely varied, mix of 8 tracks that are very well written songs by this clearly gifted artist. With many of the songs displaying a lot of the kind emotion that makes for a really great listen. Seemingly drawing from what I can only imagine are him own real life experiences. At different points touching on the most real emotions like love, heartbreak, pain, failed relationships and unattainable romance. They're all here.
Overall Total Eclipse is an outstanding release. What I call must have music. I give it two thumbs up and is most definitely a worthy addition to any Jazz collection. Truly an outstanding Jazz CD. One of those that is completely void of any wasted time, as each track is simply superb.
While the entire album is really very good the truly standout tunes are track 3 - Total Eclipse, track 6 - The Moon Ain't Made Of Green Cheese, and track 8 - Last Frontier.
My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 - Solarization: Solarization / Second Phase / Crescent Sun / Voyage / Solarization-Recapitulation. This is a great track!
