In the modern world we take for granted the availability of innumerable sources providing accurate measurements of time. Telling current time is so readily available that we have lost sight of the profound importance of knowing time, to the hour and minute. For most of human history accurately measuring time was irrelevant. There was no need for watches; clocks, clock radios or digital time reads on car dashboards.

Until the flowering of the industrial age in the second half of the 19th century most people worked in small plot agriculture. All over the world people scratched out a living farming and herding small plots and flocks. Very few people ventured more than several miles from their place of birth in their whole lifetimes. Time was told by the change of seasons and the planting and harvest cycles. Nothing else was needed to provide measurements of time.

The ancients used sundials in numerous forms for crude time measurement. Shade, rain, and cloudy days made the sundial unreliable. The Egyptians invented an advanced Water Clock. The device used a drip system that raised a float tied to a pointer. This system was relatively accurate in measuring hours, but not minutes.

The clock as we know it first appeared in Europe in the 14th century. The clock was made operable by the creation of the "verge escapement". This gear engaged a set of teeth that powered an hour hand. There was no measurement of seconds or minutes. The hour hand was accurate within one to two hours each day. The inventor of this initial timepiece is unknown.

Something more precise was essential if technology was to advance. In 1657 a Dutch astronomer, Christiaan Huygens was credited with inventing the first accurate time keeping device that included the credible measurement of time by the minute. This advance was crucial in many fields. Navigators required accurate time measurement to compute longitude. All scientific experimentation requires accurate measurement of time.

For the common man, working on a farm, or as a village cobbler, or baker, accurate measurement of time was still of little importance. The railroad, more than any other advancement, was responsible for the rapid introduction and implementation of a universally recognized schedule of times. This schedule required accurate devices to register local time.

Railroads needed to load and offload passengers and freight at pre-appointed times and places along their lengthy route systems. Travelers and shippers needed to accurately know when trains would arrive and depart in order to be ready to board passenger cars and load shipping cars with goods. Before the growth of railroads there was little necessity for the measurement of time in minutes. It was enough for almost any human to simply know that it was 3:00 PM, plus or minus any number of minutes. However, if the train was scheduled to arrive at 3:10 PM in Leeds, England, or Dodge City, Kansas, and depart at 3:35 PM, the public needed to be able to connect within that precise window of time if they were to be able to utilize the trains many services. This required the mass production of clocks and personal timepieces.

Today we are fully wired by time. Our lives are an endless series of activities attuned to specific times. Our Saturday tennis match, doctor appointments, restaurant reservations, conference calls and NFL games are occurrences that we participate in at specific times. We need to know time to the minute and our modern environment has time accurately on display virtually every where we look. We take this simplest of conveniences for granted.

The settling of the International Time Line at Greenwich, England (Greenwich Mean Time) enables to world to be divided into time zones. We know that different parts of the world are in one of 24 separate time zones and all commercial activity finds rhythm from this practical division of geography into these agreed time zones. The rubber plantation foreman in Nigeria knows exactly when the product manager will be available in Akron, Ohio because of this internationally employed system of measuring time. The modern world could not efficiently operate if the ancients had not begun the quest for accurately measuring the hours of each day.

1. Ancient Mayans The Ancient Mayans were obsessed with time, and their calendar was in some ways more accurate than our current calendar. The Mayan calendar is able to predict eclipses thousands of years in advance. It also turned out to be prophetic, as it predicted in the 8th century BC that "white skinned bearded gods would arrive from across the sea on March 5, 1519", the exact day that Cortez and his Conquistadors arrive in the new world. The Earth and the Sun come into exact alignment with the center of the milky way galaxy on December 21, 2012. The Mayans reference a "Dark Mother" / Black Hole, at the center of the galaxy. (Which science has recently shown to have credence). This alignment only occurs 1 time every 25,800 years.

2. Cumaen Sybel lived in ancient Rome around the 6th century BC. She was highly regarded by Roman authorities. Her scrolls were housed in the temple of Jupiter and were some of the most important religious documents of their time. She predicts the world will last for 9 periods of 800 years, and that the 10th generation will begin around 2000 AD, and that it will be the last generation. She accurately predicted the invasion of Hannibal 700 years before his arrival, and his defeat. She also predicted Emperor Constantine by name 800 years before his birth. It is also believed that she may have predicted Christ 20 years prior to his birth.

I CHING The I CHING The I Ching (Wade-Giles), or "Yì J+ng" (Pinyin); also called "Book of Changes" or "Classic of Changes" is one of the oldest of the Chinese Classic Texts The book is a symbol system used to identify order in chance events. The text describes an ancient system of cosmology and philosophy that is intrinsic to ancient Chinese cultural beliefs. Wiki says..

One of McKenna's ideas is known as Novelty Theory. It predicts the ebb and flow of novelty in the universe as an inherent quality of time. McKenna developed the theory in the mid-1970s after his experiences in the Amazon at La Chorrera led him to closely study the King Wen sequence of the I-Ching. Novelty theory involves ontology, extropy, and eschatology. The theory proposes that the universe is an engine designed for the production and conservation of novelty. Novelty, in this context, can be thought of as newness, or extropy (a term coined by Max More meaning the opposite of entropy). According to McKenna, when novelty is graphed over time, a fractal waveform known as "timewave zero" or simply the "timewave" results.

The graph shows at what time periods, but never at what locations, novelty increases or decreases.

Considered by some to represent a model of history's most important events, the universal algorithm has also been extrapolated to be a model for future events. McKenna admitted to the expectation of a "singularity of novelty", and that he and his colleagues projected many hundreds of years into the future to find when this singularity (runaway "newness" or extropy) could occur. Millenarians give more credence to Novelty theory as a way to predict the future (especially regarding 2012) than McKenna himself. The graph of extropy had many enormous fluctuations over the last 25,000 years, but amazingly, it hit an asymptote at exactly December 21, 2012.[18] In other words, entropy (or habituation) no longer exists after that date.

So, the King Wen sequence shows that the time line ends on exactly December 21, 2012. The same day the Mayan Calendar ends.

4. Merlin (Merlin The Wild) Myrddin Wyllt Merlin, a 6th century British prophet, also foretells the end of the world. He predicted the first American colony by name. He predicted the British victory at Waterloo, the Nazi holocaust, and some of his farther reaching predictions may strike true in your thoughts, like this one "At that time shall a man, standing on the shore of England, speak instantly to a man in France through a speaking stone." He also predicts that the sea will discharge into the river (i don't know the spelling of that river) and that fish will grow multiple tales because of this. There happens to be a modern day nuclear reactor right next to that river.

5. Mother Shipton Though her prophecies may have been fabricated in the 1800's, I find it interesting that one of them reads something like "When pictures look alive, and ships swim like fish.. and men soar in the sky like birds, then half the world deep drenched in blood shall die".

6. John Of Patmos The book of Revelation has some chilling words of prophecy that most are familiar with. Including flood, famine, earthquakes, etc. Which also coincide with many of the other prophecies we have discussed.

7. The Web Bot Project This was referenced on the History Channel, and I can not seem to find any solid information about it via the internet. It was said on the H channel that the web bot technology was created as a predictive model for the stock market, and at some point it began to predict future world events as well. The web bot is said to predict limited nuclear war and world disasters around 2008-2009 leading up to devastating world events in 2012.

What could happen? It is now believed that a polar shift has happened in the past, and could happen again in the future. This shift would cause all of the same types of disasters that I have discussed in these prophecies. This would involved the magnetic poles of the Earth..well..shifting, and if this happened quickly (over days or hours) it could be devastating.

Marbro Lamp Company was founded by Morris Markoff and his brother, hence the name Marbro from Markoff brothers. They started the company shortly after WWII. The company was located in a 3 story brick building in the garment district of Los Angeles, just south of downtown right by the Santa Monica Freeway. During the time they ran the company, they sold almost as many antiques as they did lamps.

They also had a sizable business in decorative accessories such as tables, and a lot of animal figurines. There were quite a few dog figurines that were life size. One dog figurine was a life size Great Dane purchased by the actor Jack Webb (Dragnet). There were quite a few celebrities that came in to their shop. One actress who shopped there repeatedly was Deborah Shelton who at the time played the part of "Mandy" on Dallas (remember J.R.).

Marbro sold their products mainly through interior designers and a few upscale furniture stores. You would not find a Marbro product in a chain furniture store or discount store. Most of the products were built to order, and a typical order from a designer or retailer took between 75 and 90 days to complete.

Most of the components that made up the lamp bodies (ceramic, brass etc) were purchased from small companies around the world (see porcelain figure from Italy at top of page). In the later years almost all of the brass came from India. For the most part, none of the bodies were made on site. Marbro was well-known for importing a variety of unique lighting from all over the world. Italy was the source for alabaster, Japan and China for Porcelain, Brass in India and Crystal from Germany and France. Lamps would also be made from sculptures that customers brought in to the shop.

Once the lamp bodies arrived, a group of Marbro employees would make the wood bases, spin the metal caps, make the shades, and do the painting and tinting. With the help of about 20-40 other true world class artisans, metal workers, finishers and hand made shade makers, they produced lamps and shades that are some of last of their kind of art. For example, Marbro brass was never just plain brass. It was stained with a tinting that was homemade and kept secret by the company (reminiscent of Handel Lamp Co.). There were quite a few of these preparations all kept in one of those little metal boxes on a 3x5" file card just like a recipe. It was truly unique.

Many of the lamp bodies that were bought were not exactly matched as pairs. Sometimes 10-20 crystal vases would have to be sorted through to get 2 of the exact same height so that if the lamps were purchased as a pair, they would match. All of the shades were made by hand by a group of women on the second floor of the building with very little automation.

The lamps were considered high style fine lamps for the times and presently. Brass and porcelain lamps would wholesale for a$300 - $3,000 while crystal and bronze lamps were $2,000 - $4,000.

The manufacturing plant was closed in Los Angeles in December 1990 and the inventory and equipment were moved to LaBarge Mirrors in Holland, MI. At the time LaBarge Mirrors was a Masco Corp subsidiary. Some time later, the Marbro product line was discontinued. Eventually, Masco sold most of their home furnishings manufacturing holdings.

Marbo assembled a very talented, experienced and most unique group of artists and craftsmen and many of their fine lamps exhibit a certain distinctive style. Most of the employees were in their 50's and older. There were quite a few employees in their late 60's and 70's. Today their lamps are very collectible and sought after especially by knowledgeable collectors who are familiar with the company's lamps and history.

It is obvious from the company's careful selection of art objects and their unique proprietary methods of lamp making that their goal was to design beautiful unique and very high quality lamps. Their success is obvious from the very fine collectible Marbro lamps that are still sought after today.

Miniature football helmets are a way of bringing home a piece of your favorite team and preserving the same. Allergies develop from repeated exposure to chemicals. Yes, silver is a chemical.

However, I do not feel you have an allergy to silver. If you were allergic to silver both your ears would be affected equally. I am assuming you are wearing the same type of ear rings in both your ears.

It is most likely that you have in infection. Remove both your ear rings. Clean the sites with poviodine or any other antibiotic solution and your infection should subside.

Clean your ear rings before you use them again.

Believe it or not, but laundry room décor does exist. A laundry room doesn't have to be a dreaded dank dungeon when it has the potential to be bright and happy. Any laundry room, no matter how small or dark, can be transformed into an inviting space. Best of all, you don't need to spend a lot of money or time on improvements. You'll discover that by adding a few simple touches will make all the difference to your washing experience.

Like it or not, your going to spend plenty of time in your laundry room, time that only increases as families grow larger. Therefore, why not choose to like it instead of loathing every minute. By adding some of the basic laundry room décor tips below, you may even find yourself looking forward to washing clothes.

Tip 1 - Paint the walls your favorite color - If you don't have a favorite color, then choose bright and energetic shades such as yellow, orange and red. On the other hand, should you desire your laundry room to be a place where you can relax, choose blue or green. Your walls should be a color (or colors) that make you feel happy.

Tip 2 - Pictures to give walls character - If painting is too much of a hassle, or if you have any free wall space, why not add a picture or two as part of your laundry room décor. It doesn't matter if it's a painting by a famous artist, a picture your child drew, or a movie poster. The laundry room is certainly the one area of your home where you can be really liberal with your wall decoration choices.

Tip 2 - Keep your feet cozy - Add a couple of soft rugs or mats to the floor in front of the washer and dryer to keep your feet snug and warm. Rugs also help to absorb any water that may fall. You do not need any special mats unless you have a theme for your laundry room décor you wish to follow, simply choose the rugs with the color/design and texture you like best.

Tip 3 - Get nature involved - Plants, regardless if they are real or artificial, add life and color to a room, and can easily infuse a dull room with vitality.

Tip 4 - Music makes a difference - Include a little radio or CD player in your laundry room so you can listen to and sing with your favorite tunes as you work.

Tip 5 - Light up your life - If the lighting is dull in the laundry room, or there is not enough, do yourself a favor and obtain brighter bulbs or additional lighting (I.E. floor, table or task lighting). Poor lighting puts strain on your eyes and can make you feel tired.

Tip 6 - Keep it cool - A laundry room can often feel damp and warm. A small fan can help circulate the air and be a great comfort on a hot day or if you're feeling overheated.

Tip 7 - Add convenient laundry room décor to your space - Convenient décor includes shelves, hanging clothes rack, hampers and a waste basket. It is imperative that some form of organization exists within your laundry room so you can store soap, keep dirty clothing off the floor, and have a place where delicate clothing can hang to dry. A waste basket is also needed to collect any tissue left in pockets, lint from the dryer or fabric softener sheets. A cluttered laundry room is a huge deterrent so keep it clean.

Even if you only incorporate a few of the above laundry room décor tips, you will notice a difference. Keep in mind, if you are the one in your household who does the most wash, decorate the laundry room for yourself!

In one of the fires we had my wall clock was a big plastic melted drip, how hot was it in there to do that?

does a clock actually move slower when travelling close to the speed of light?

What i mean is if a clock ticks and is moving at a speed v then do i see the ticks are slower from a rest frame. It doesn't make sense, I mean I thought that it is the theoritical time that slows down not the actually physical ticks. In an online shop, as soon as you classify the items in your shop you make it harder for some people to find what they want. In a toy shop, for instance, if you categorize items by, for instance, board games, dolls, puzzles, gadgets, you make it harder for people to find items by price, age group or suitability for their nephew and you're never going to be able to cater for everyone's reasons for visiting your website.

The system chose those because it has previously automatically processed the journeys of thousands of previous visitors and it knows that people who view Jellycat toys also view Aurora soft toys.

Computer won't start up!!?

I have an Alienware aurora 7700 version laptop and now whenever I start it up it loads to the startup screen but then it goes to a black screen then beeps twice.

I don't think this is a mal-ware problem, maybe it's a problem with the computer itself. I'm not a specialist but I got this information from a site:

"M7700 and M9700 problems/complaints - Alienware m7700 and m9700- Alienware has continued to screw me also. I purchased my first Alienware about a year and a half ago. Recently it died. The hard drives are corrupted and the computer will not even allow me to reformat the drives. I purchased two new drives to try an install from scratch and I have had no luck. Alienware offers no support for their claimed "top of the line computer and customer support"

Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) causes the loss of oxygen and nutrients to the myocardial (heart) tissue due to poor coronary (main artery of heart) blood flow. Atherosclerosis is the main cause of CAD. Atherosclerosis is a build up of plaque in the artery walls. The walls become fibrous, thick, and calcified. Bald Headed Doctors

The Department of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital conducted an eleven-year study involving over 22,000 male physicians. The study showed that doctors who were bald on top of their heads (as opposed to frontal balding or loss of hair) were more likely to suffer from coronary heart disease, especially when combined with other risk factors such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

Earlobe Creases

At least 30 different studies have shown that a diagonal crease in the earlobe was a sign of increased risk for heart attack. The presence of a unilateral earlobe crease was associated with a 33% increase in the risk of heart attack and 77% if both earlobes were creased. Chronic circulatory problems cause the blood vessels in the earlobe to collapse. This then creates a crease in the earlobe. A diagonal earlobe crease is a better indicator of sudden death from heart attack then age, smoking, weight, high cholesterol, or sedentary lifestyle. For some reason a creased earlobe doesn't increase the risk of heart attack in Asians and Native Americans.

Smoking increases the risk of dying from a heart attack by three-five times the normal. This is also true of chronic exposure to second hand smoke. Vitamin B6 is essential in reducing homocysteine levels. Elevated homocysteine levels increase the risk of heart disease. Smoking decreases longevity by an average of 7.5 years.

Over 50 million Americans suffer from hypertension (high blood pressure). Hypertension affects one out of every four adult Americans. Almost 43,000 Americans died from hypertension. Another 227, 000 died from causes related to hypertension. Too much pressure within the cardiovascular system can cause some serious problems. Blood pressure is measured by using a sphygmomanometer (blood pressure cuff) and a stethoscope. The cuff is inflated around the brachial artery in your upper arm. The first tapping sound is known as the systolic pressure. The sound is the pressure exerted by the blood on the artery wall each time the heart beats. The diastolic pressure occurs after the cuff begins to be deflated. The diastolic pressure reflects the pressure exerted by the blood on the walls of the artery when the heart is at rest or between beats. The systolic number is listed above the diastolic number; 120/80.

Normal blood pressure is 120/80mm Hg; 120-130/80-90 is pre-hypertensive. And if the systolic pressure is above 140 or if the diastolic pressure is above 90, this is indicative of hypertension. Stage 1 hypertension occurs when the systolic pressure is between 140-159 or diastolic pressure is between 90-99. Stage II hypertension occurs when the systolic pressure is above 160 or if the diastolic pressure is above 100. Individuals who are in stage I have a 31 percent greater risk of heart attack, almost twice the risk of stroke, and a 43 percent increase in death rate, compared to individuals with normal blood pressure.

Essential hypertension is high blood pressure that has no definitive cause. This is the case for 95 percent of the cases of hypertension. Secondary hypertension is high blood pressure due to another condition such as kidney disease, diabetes, prescription medications, allergic reactions, and chemical sensitivities.

To lower your risk of CAD eat a healthy diet, avoid sugary and fried foods, which tend to increase inflammation and reduce circulation. Don't smoke! Exercise and lose any unwanted weight. This reduces the workload of the heart and cardiovascular system. Take 1-2 grams of fish oil ad day. This increases circulation, reduces inflammation and decreases your risk of heart attack and stroke by 41 percent. Keep your blood pressure under control.

is it possible for a digital clock to speed up?

i've had this digital clock for about 6 months. works perfect. its just an alarm clock, no radio. last night i realized it was about 10 mintues fast. however, i know i didnt change it to purposely be fast. so i adjusted it and it matched my computer and cell phone time. i jsut noticed it again and it is 50 MINUTES OFF! it says 2:45 when it is really 1:55. how does this happen? very annoying.

If mains driven then usually they get their "clock pusle" from the mains which depending on where you are is 50Hz or 60Hz.

Providing it is tied to the mains it should be incredibly accurate - as the electricty companies (in modern countries) count the number of cycles and make sure that if theyhave slowed down a little (very heavy loads) then they catch up later.

Problems can occur if:-

A 50Hz clock is used in a 60Hz country - or vice versa, clock will lose/gain about 10 minutes per hour.

NOT mains driven - or on battery backup. At this point the clock is goverened by an internal crystal and if the battery is almost flat, it CAN on some units, make the crystal oscillate a little faster

It's buggered.

My RC helicopter turns too much because of the torque of the motor? How do I fix this?

when im in normal mode or idle up, my heli will yaw a lot during a sudden throttle change. This makes flying very difficult. For example: i flipped my heli upside down and the tail spun also because of the torque almost resulting in a crash!! The heli is torqueing too much when the throttle is changed.. how do i fix this? My heli is the Walkera HM #60B and im using a digital transmitter simular to the Dx7.

So when you hover, does your helicopter remain stable? or does the tail spin left or right? and when you put more throttle, does the tail move left or right as well? Cause you may have some blades that are out of pitch, thats why your helicopter might shift according to the throttle. If you have the proper ratio of pitch, then your helicopter should be straight. If your pitch is ok, then I would suggest getting a Heading Lock Gyro, see if that helps.

Sorry, I dont really understand the question... Cause the Walkera HM 60B, is a belt driven tail rotor helicopter right? So if your tail motor is swinging left or right everytime you put in more throttle, then the only reason it is doing that is because your tail pitch is not correct or your main pitch is not correct.

Here in Alabama, there are three classes of people: Alabama Crimson Tide fans, Auburn Tiger fans, and atheists. Two of the three will go to Hell when they die. Which two depends entirely on who you ask.

Those Alabamians who like football but have no particular team preference are called, "agnostics." It is the hope of the faithful that someday these poor, pathetic souls will purchase an Alabama jacket or be given an Auburn cap and thereby experience the joy of committing themselves to a particular team. Until then, they are considered social and recreational outcasts. To pray for them is all that we can do.

Why all the religious references in a column that's supposed to be about football? Because religion and football are closely entwined, my friend, with much more in common than you may think. Note this passage from the Big Playbook of St. Gipper, recently discovered in a dark basement on the campus of Notre Dame University.

The passage reads: "And on the seventh day God created football and all was right with the world... until Satan brought forth the referees..."

It is impossible to believe in college football without also believing in a Higher Power. Here in Alabama - and in a whole lot of other places - football is a religion. To some, it is the only religion. Blasphemy, you say? I don't think so. More prayers are said and answered during the average college football game than in most churches during a month of Sundays. That explains why evangelists love to hold revivals in football stadiums. The mood has already been set. The congregation holds season tickets.

Consider this: Alabama has been getting a lot of national press lately because of two things:

(1) The quality (or lack thereof) of the University of Alabama's football team and

(2) Moral stands being taken and legal battles being waged by Alabamians over the separation of church and state. Football and religion. Religion and football. And on we go.

Playing offense for God in Alabama are folks like the high school students who walked out of class because they weren't allowed a moment of prayer before a math test. Personally, I'd rather have my teenagers saying prayers in school classrooms than singing rap songs and riding around in loud cars. I do think these young people are limiting themselves, though. When I was in school we prayed before EVERY test, not just math.

Then there's Judge Roy Moore, one of God's team captains, if you will. Moore is the Alabama judge who has a plaque of the Ten Commandments hanging on the wall in his courtroom. The Supreme Court has ordered the plaque to be taken down, but our beloved governor, Fob "I'm The Law In These Parts" James, has said that he'll send in the National Guard to make sure the plaque stays up. You can call this beefing up the defense.

Which brings up another question: if Alabama secedes from the Union because of ACLU and NCAA oppression, does that make Fob our king? If so, I think that's more than reason enough not to secede. King Fob. Sounds like a giant gorilla with a speech impediment, doesn't it.

Back to the subject at hand, I think the opinion that football has become a bonafide religion is further attested to by the fact that no one has yet tried to shove a legal crowbar between organized religion and organized college football. Maybe they realize how futile their efforts would be. Or maybe they're just afraid of divine retribution. I understand Bear Bryant and Shug Jordan were not men to be crossed while they were here on earth. God forbid some heretic ACLU lawyer upset them now.

When the Universities of Alabama and Auburn play one another as they did last weekend, the faithful drop whatever they're doing and flock to the game like wise men chasing a far off star. The entire state stands still. Try finding a washing machine repairman or an emergency room doctor during an Alabama/Auburn game. They are nowhere to be found. You may die in dirty clothes, but that's what you get for not attending the big game.

The ending of this year's Iron Bowl was, as it always is, of apocalyptic proportions. In the final moments of the game, just before the buzzer sounded to signal the end, everyone's faith was put to the test. As the clock ticked down - 6... 5... 4... 3... 2... 1... you were either devoutly for Alabama or had completely given your life to Auburn.

There was no "Atheist" section in these stands.

In this second article of our "repair your grandfather clock on your own" series we're going to go over some other things you can do on your own before taking your prized possession to a very expensive repair shop.

In our first article we went over what to do if the pendulum doesn't swing. Next we're going to go over what to do if the clock runs too fast or too slow.

If the clock is running to fast or too slow what you need to do is adjust your pendulum bob. That big round disk at the end of your pendulum is your pendulum bob. You adjust your pendulum bob with the nut located at the bottom of the bob. This is what adjusts the timing. If the bob is raised up this will make the clock run faster. If the bob is lowered this will make the clock run slower. You can expect to get this accurate to within one minute fast or slow per week. Better than that, consider yourself lucky.

Start by setting your grandfather clock to a standard electric or quartz clock or watch. Then check the time against the clock 24 hours later. If the clock is running fast, turn the nut to the left. If the clock is running slow, turn the nut to the right. Then reset the time on your clock and check it again in another 24 hours. Keep performing this process until the clock appears to be running on time. Expect to do this every week at least. Keep a record of the distance you turned the nut each time so you will have an idea of how much you'll need to turn it in the future.

Eventually the timing will be accurate enough so that you'll only have to check the clock once each week and it should never be off by more than a minute. Just a tip. Some grandfather clocks are made so that a full turn of the nut is actually equal to one minute. So if your clock is running 2 minutes fast then all you need to do is turn the nut two full turns to the left and this will set the timing correctly. Of course the only way to know if your clock is one of these is to test this theory out.

Some grandfather clocks actually have two nuts attached to the bottom of the pendulum. If your clock is one of these then most likely it is a very accurate clock. Many clock owners believe the bottom nut is a lock nut against the top nut. This is not true. Actually you must make sure that the bottom and top nuts do not touch. Let the top nut raise or lower the pendulum bob until you've gotten the timekeeping as accurate as possible. Then by either turning left or right use the weight of the top nut to make your final adjustments to your clock's timing.

Should I get a Twilight clock for my coworker?
