Does anyone know how go get rid of house finches?

We've had house finches nesting in our awnings (more like building condos) for years. Our decks are such a mess with their droppings and nesting materials. I've tried EVERYTHING and they come back year after year. In fact this year, they never left. We've tried stuffing aluminum foil, drycleaning bags and pool tubes in the awnings but they manage to pull or peck it out. Please help!!! Thanks so much. Denise

Above answer is partially correct. All migritory (and native)species are protected by International treaty, the US is one of the signees.

I put balled up chicken wire into our nooks. The little wires stick out just enough to wedge it so they can't pull it out.
